The first fire safety tip for kids is to be sure that your kids do not play with matches or lighters. You have to be sure that you let them know that those are not toys, they are tools. You need to teach your children that if they see lighters or matches lying around the house, they should never touch them. They should bring them to an adult so that the adult can get those things out of the way. I guess another thing we would probably stress is having a fire escape plan. This means having at least two ways out of every room and teaching your children these routes. Teach children that if their clothes ever happen to catch fire or anything like that, they should never run. They should always stop, drop and roll.
Another thing that we would try to make sure and stress to our children is that if the home happens to catch fire and they are getting ready to leave the building, crawl low under the smoke. That is where you get most of the good air by staying down at a lower level.
