Learn how to shape your eyebrows to flatter your face. Advice on shaping brows, technique and tools for beauty.
First, pick the best tweezers for your needs. A pair of tweezers with a thin tip is good if you have thin, short eyebrows, or ingrown hairs. A square tip is best for thick and long eyebrow hairs. A slanted tip is the best of both worlds. Now, prepare your brows for shaping. Wash your face with warm water to remove any makeup or oils from the hairs and to loosen hair follicles. Then, wipe your brows with astringent.
Now you can figure out the best shape for your face. Hold a pencil vertically along the side of your nose to measure your brows. Your eyebrow should start at outside edge of the pencil, if not, then it needs to be plucked to that point. If you have close-set eyes leaving a little more space will widen the look of your eyes. Hold the tweezers at a 45-degree angle to make it easier to get at the hairs you want to pull.
Next, hold the pencil to outside of your eye and line it up with the edge of your eyebrow. If the pencil does not line up with the edge of your eye then it needs to be plucked. The highest point of your brow should be a little past the outer corner of your eye's iris and should taper off to the end of your eye. Take an eyebrow brush or soft toothbrush and brush the hairs of your eyebrow straight up. Trim any wayward hairs that are longer than the others. Then, brush them downward and trim any overly long hairs.
Another important part of eyebrow maintenance is to decide if your brows are too thick for your face. If you have a larger face with a strong jaw you will need thicker brows than if you have a thin, delicate face. Make sure, though, to keep your natural arch and not to thin your brows too much. Take an eyebrow pencil and trace your natural arch. Pluck any hairs that are outside of the arch. The last step is to remove any hairs that are in between your natural brows. No uni-brow. Follow these steps and you are on your way to having beautiful brows that will work for your face.
