Any cat that ever goes outside has a chance of getting fleas. Learn to control this problem.
Fleas can cause your cat to itch and twitch for days and weeks. Fleas can cause skin disorders on your cat, so it's your job to control it.
Cats can get fleas from many ways. Both indoor and outdoor cats are known to get the pests. Outdoor cats are most susceptible, because fleas generally live outside. All it takes is one flea to hop onto your cat's back and grab hold of its fur, and it can easily go to town on biting your pet. Your indoor cats can get fleas, too. If you ever have visiting pets coming in from outside who might carry fleas, they can contract fleas by simply coming in contact with them. Fleas also can attach to humans, and your pets can actually get them from you.
So there's no mistaking that your cats can easily contract fleas. Those fleas bite your pets and can be irritating to your friend. It's a natural reaction for your cats to scratch at their fleas, and that can cause skin ailments. Further, fleas are known to breed and feed on the cat. A female flea can produce as many as 500 eggs. These eggs are white dots and can be layed on your cat or even on your furniture. It doesn't really matter. So once you have fleas in your house, that's bad news.
There are several things you can do to try to get rid of fleas on your cat. The first is giving your cat a bath or even a flea bath. A flea bath includes dipping your cat in an insecticide that will kill any existing fleas and deter other fleas from wanting to grab hold of your cat.
There are also powders and sprays on the market that you can put on your cat. You simply splash the recommended amount of powder or spray onto your cat. These powders and sprays work great. Be sure to keep any of these powders or sprays away from your cat's face.
You can also give your cat a flea collar. Flea collars are probably the simplest way for pet owners to kill existing fleas and keep other fleas from wanting to attach themselves to your cat. You simply place the collar around your cat's neck. It does the rest.
The other options for controlling fleas on your cat include a food additive you can give your cat. You simply put this yeast in your cat's food. You don't add too much. This yeast causes the skin on your pet to excrete sulfur, a substance known to repel insects.
