How should you tour Florida's Everglades National Park? Here are some tips and sights that should be observed...
The Everglades in southern Florida have a reputation for being a dangerous place. It's known for its swampy land and for the vicious creatures that live there. But there are safe ways to tour Everglades National Park. Here is a list of some of the safe trails that you'll want to check out to fully experience all that the park has to offer.
* Pinelands Trail. This trail will allow you to walk through a region that is known as a pine forest. It's about seven miles from the entrance to the park. Walking this trail will allow you to see some of the fine bird and plantlife that call the Everglades home, including the red-bellied woodpecker.
* Mahogany Hammock. This is a trail that allows you a unique perspective of wildlife in the region. Birds like egrets and white herons will show you what it's like to be higher up on the food chain than the tiny periphyton. Also, it's here where you can see the largest mahogany tree in the United States.
* Gumbo Limbo Trail. This is a trail that will take you through a dense wooded area. Here you can see all sorts of trees and wildlife that you likely haven't seen before, including some palms and tamarind trees. The Tamarind is a tree that has bark soft enough to allow snails to attach themselves to and climb up them.
* Pa-Hay-Okee Overlook Trail. If you're looking for a great view of the Everglades, perhaps this is the tour for you. It won't take you long to walk to the observing deck, where you can see miles away. You can also experience some interesting wildlife and flora that call this area home.
* Anhinga Trail. This is a trail that goes through a thick marshy area. There are plenty of alligators and other swampy aquatic life that live here. You'll want to watch your step as you'll likely run into a snake or two, as well. This trail is four miles from the entrance to the park.
