Flower arranging can be fairly simple, once you learn the basics and have a few ideas in mind. Whether you're attempting to create a flower arrangement for your dining room table, or for an event, such as a wedding or reception, you can come up with wonderful designs that will add natural beauty to any event. You should definitely keep in mind the type of event you creating a flower arrangement for, along with other elements that will be around the arrangement, such as furniture and other plants; you not only want your flower arrangement to look good by itself, but to compliment its surroundings exquisitely.
Before you reach your final product(s), you'll need a few tools to get you started. Here are some suggestions for making very attractive and affordable flower arrangements:
1. Make sure you have line materials. Line materials are the first thing you'll need in order to establish the height and width of all the flowers in the arrangement. If you don't have an instrument to align your flowers, you can use the flowers themselves to establish the shape and presentation of your arrangement. Determining what you'll be placing the flowers will also help you to even your arrangement out. Take the shape of the bowl, vase, or basket you'll be placing the flowers in into consideration. Not only will this give you an idea of how you want the flowers to be situated in the arrangement, will also help you to choose the colors and additional accents you'll want into your flower arrangement.
2. Next, it's time to choose the flowers that will be prominent features in the arrangement. These are usually flowers with a definite shape to them, like daisies or lilies. These are the flowers that will be most noticeable in the arrangement. Be sure to select flowers that are in season at the time you create your arrangement. This will give your flower arrangement the color you want, and the flowers will last longer.
3. Next, you should add your filler flowers. These are smaller flowers that usually come in clusters, such as baby's breath or violets. All of your flowers do not have to be the same color, but you should choose colors and shades that compliment every flower in the arrangement. your filler flowers should be interspersed between the dominant flowers in an even pattern.
4. Finally, include any miscellaneous or accent materials you think would make your flower arrangement especially unique. Depending on the season, you can create flower arrangements that include fruit or leaves in order to match the plant colors that will be natural during the season when the flowers and fruits you choose are ripe. Additional accents like a beautiful vase or a centerpiece within the arrangment (i.e. a horn or plenty in a Thanksgiving flower arrangement) will make your flower arrangement stand out. Your accent could also be the size of the flowers or of the overall arrangement, or the distinct color of the flowers in your arrangement.
Now, you're ready to show your beautiful flower arrangment off. If you want your arrangement to last for more than one occassion, you can follow the same steps above using synthetic flowers.
