The Fostoria Glass Society was founded in 1981 by some of the people that were closest to the company and collectors. They felt there should be some sort of a society to help perpetuate the collecting of Fostoria Glassware. In 1981, the society was started. Their goal was to foster the heritage of the Fostoria Glassware. In 1991, they had purchased a building and founded the museum.
We maintain that museum for educational purposes. We also have a publication we put out six times a year. It's called, Facets of Fostoria. We put some articles in there that may be of interest to collectors and dealers. The society itself has a number of books specific to Fostoria Glassware that we have for sale and for some memorabilia type items also.
The society was created, because the glasswares were so unique. It has many patterns or lines that were created with an acid type process. The materials they used were of high quality. Even at a distance, Fostoria glass looks awesome.
q: Fostoria glass was made with older glass blown techniques?
Yes. One thing they did that other companies didn't do was they used a process called fire polishing. This is a process where the items went through additional heating. It would further melt or finish the outside surfaces of the glass, to give it a smoother quality finish.
