Looking for something to do with the whole family indoors? Whether you want to avoid the elements or just prefer to be indoors, there are plenty of things to do at home or at indoor entertainment venues.
STAY HOME FOR INDOOR FUN
It is not necessary to go out to have a fun time with the family. There are plenty of great activities you can do without spending a lot of money or leaving the house.
Arts and crafts: When was the last time you created something as a family? Whether you build a long lasting project together (consider a toy chest or shelves for the den) or draw outlines of the whole family on butcher paper, creativity will flow as you make things together. Not feeling handy or artistic? Just get out the play dough and sculpt whatever comes to mind.
Bake: The family that bakes together"¦ eats dessert together. Make cookies or a cake. Even the youngest kids can stir and add sprinkles.
Build a fort: Whether you use cardboard boxes or tables and chairs with blankets thrown over them, an indoor fort is sure to tickle your kids and bring back your own fond memories of childhood.
Play games: Nearly everyone has a cupboard full of games, but take time to rediscover them. Pull out the board games and cards for an interactive evening every member of the family is sure to enjoy.
GO OUT FOR INDOOR FUN
More and more venues are opening to offer different types of safe and family-friendly indoor fun. Gone are the days where bowling and miniature golf are the only options for indoor activities. Whatever you interests, or that ages of your children, you are sure to find something that appeals to every member of the family.
Billiards: Playing pool does not have to mean spending time in a smoky bar. Many community centers and family entertainment centers offer billiards tables for the whole family. Order a pitcher of soda, some chili cheese fries and shoot some eight ball.
Climb and bounce: Check your local listings for entertainment centers that have indoor climbing equipment, bounce houses, inflatable slides, zip lines, ride-ons and other active fun. Many of them cater to private parties, but also offer free play times.
Laser tag: Check your local yellow pages for a laser tag facility. This fun run and chase activity is most appropriate for kids ages eight and up.
Museums: Museums aren't all stuffy and they don't only contain art. Check your local area for interactive exhibits such as the many science and technology museums aimed at kids.
Rock wall climbing: Many sports centers offer rock climbing in a safe and contained environment. Rock walls are available for every skill level and this is the perfect way to try this challenging, but rewarding sport.
Skate: Whether you prefer ice or roller skating, indoor rinks offer wholesome fun that is good exercise for nearly all ages. You will be astounded at the balance your toddlers exhibit. Check your local rinks for special family events.
Swim: Many communities offer indoor swimming pools. Check for free swim times as well as water games and special events.
Video arcades: Video arcades are not just about shoot-em-up games anymore. Try one of the many sports simulations, dancing contests or other fun activities that modern arcades offer. Also watch for skee ball and air hockey.
