In the daytime, you can take advantage of Rochester's many parks and museums. Rochester has many bike trails where you can also choose to jog or rollerblade. You can visit the George Eastman House for a tour of the history of Kodak and Cameras. You can visit the Vietnam Veterans Museum in Downtown Rochester. You can also visit the Susan B Anthony House for a lesson in history. If you prefer to shop for art and antiques, you can visit Monroe Ave, which is near the downtown area of Rochester. This area has a village like artsy feel to it. The park Ave area also a great place to find gift shops and small restaurants and diners.
The city of Rochester also sponsors free concerts and other activities throughout the area. One of these is a weekly noontime concert at Aqueduct Park that runs from early July to early August.
Rochester NY also has an active nightlife that is excellent for a young or dating couple, many of which are free. Highland Park shows movies in the park throughout the summer; all you need to bring is a blanket, and perhaps a picnic dinner. Wegmans, the largest grocery store chain in the area sponsors free concerts by the shore in the Ontario Beach area. Wegmans superstores are also known by locals as a great to meet up for a date. The stores have small restaurants and many other amenities that would make one forget that it is even a grocery store. The Historic High Falls Festival Site also has after work parties running from June through August. This includes wonderful laser light shows on the falls.
For the weekends, there are lots of great activities and venues to keep you and your date busy. You can start Saturday morning by visiting the Rochester Public market to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables as well as clothing, perfume and trinkets. Go as early as you possibly can because it gets very crowded! From there you can take a daytrip to the Finger Lakes region for swimming, fishing, and boating. In the winter, you can also go skiing at Bristol lakes.
In addition to all of the outside activities, you can do during the summer and the museums and shows you can visit during the winter; you should keep track of the special events that go on in Rochester throughout the year. From spring through fall, there are many art festivals like the Corn Hill Festival, The Park Ave Fair, the Clothesline Arts festival at the Strong Memorial Art Gallery, and the Lilac Festival at Highland Park.
