If you just found out you're pregnant and want to tell your parents pretty soon, here are some fun ways to let your parents know they will be grandparents soon.
* The element of surprise should never be underestimated. Invite your parents over for a casual brunch or dinner. Throw some barbeque on the grill and wait until everybody is settled in their seat. At this point, you can take the direct or indirect method as to how to approach the news. For example, the direct method could occur when a wine toast is being held or when everybody is reaching for a beer during the barbeque. Simply say, "No thanks. No alcohol for me for the next nine (or however far along you are) months. The baby will not like that." At this point, you just sit back and wait until it has finally sunk in with everybody. The indirect approach will require a little bit more preparation. Before the brunch or dinner, make a cake and, on the top with frosting, spell out "Congratulations, New Grandparents!" Allow everybody to read the cake before you serve it.
* If you do not have the luxury of being close enough to your parents to visit, instead of making an impersonal phone call, get online and look for a "Congratulations" bouquet. Send your parents a congratulatory bouquet with a note letting them know you are congratulating them on their upcoming grandparent role. Or you can choose not to enclose a gift card and wait for their inquisitive phone call.
* Want to capture the reaction? Get the family together for a family picture or get your video camera out and have it handy. Spill the news and start filming or snapping photos for some memories you will not want to forget!
