Gatlinburg, Tennessee and the surrounding area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has been called "The Honeymoon Capital of the South." Thousands of couples choose this mountainous area for celebrating their honeymoons each year. If the beautiful, natural scenery of snow capped mountains, rich green forests and sparkling waterfalls weren't enough to lure the thousands of visitors the area receives each year, the wide variety of entertainment including museums, amusement parks, dinner theaters, comedy clubs and ski resorts are definite lures for honeymooners and vacationers alike.

Gatlinburg is a cozy, mountain village that lays at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The mountain town is filled to the rim with beautiful hotels, cabins and chalets, ranging from low budget to high priced. There are hundreds of gift and craft stores in the Gatlinburg area, which makes for some great shopping for honeymoon souvenirs. There are also numerous restaurants and entertainment.

The Space Needle

The Space Needle is a 342 foot observation tower that overlooks the city of Gatlinburg. Ride to the top of the tower in a glass elevator to get a bird's eye view of the town. The top of the tower is equipped with plenty of walking space and numerous binocular viewers for looking at the sites below you.

Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park

Ober Gatlinburg is a ski resort and amusement park that is nestled in the mountains above the village town. The Tramway, an air bus similar to a sky lift, transports you from downtown Gatlinburg up to the ski resort, a distance of 2 miles. The Tramway travels at about 17 miles per hour and carries 120 passengers. Ober Gatlinburg has winter ski slopes, an indoor ice skating rink, a Black Bear Habitat, a scenic chairlift and numerous rides.

Ripley's Believe It or Not

While seeking ideas for his Believe It or Not comic strip, Robert Ripley spent 40 years searching for the strange and unusual from all over the world. The items he found are displayed in 27 of his Ripley's Believe It or Not Museums around the globe. The Gatlinburg Museum sits on the main drag in downtown Gatlinburg. The museum is open 365 days a year and displays thousands of items that were collected to amaze you, startle you and some that may even shock you! The museum appears to be cracking up and falling apart, but that is all a part of the Ripley's illusion!

Pigeon Forge

Just down the road away from Gatlinburg is the town of Pigeon Forge. Pigeon Forge is filled with exciting restaurants and theaters for your entertainment.

There are more than 40 attractions in Pigeon Forge, including Dollywood, the amusement park owned by country singer, Dolly Parton. There are also nearly a dozen theaters where live shows are put on for your enjoyment daily. The shows vary from singing and dancing to comedy. Some of these live theaters double as dinner theaters where you can enjoy a down-home, delicious dinner while you watch the show!.
