I think the number one exercise that everybody can do that is not hard on your joints and is fairly good aerobic workout is walking. You do not need any additional equipment, but a pair of walking shoes and setting time aside in your day to go out and take a walk. I am talking about brisk walk not just a stroll.


It has a therapeutic value. For me it's a great exercise. Swimming is a great exercise and I am always looking at the approach of if a person who has been involved with fitness for a long time, more than likely they have issues of weight that they got to lose. They go back to the idea of what to do if you are packing 20 or 30 extra pounds of weight. If you are doing something such as jogging, it is going to be hard on your joints. I would look at the safety aspects first to try to figure out what the person needs to do to achieve their goals and to do it within a safe manner. Walking is, by far, one of the best exercises out there.
