How to give your hair a professional deep conditioning treatment

I will explain how to administer a good professional conditioning treatment, to enable healthy scalp circulation and hair regrowth.

To give a successful deep conditioning treatment it is important to make certain the hair is thoroughly cleansed initially and the scalp cleared of accumulated debris. To clear the follicle and unclog the scalp, a vigorous wash with a detoxifying shampoo is recommended. This will increase scalp circulation. A good deep penetrating conditioning treatment is essential especially for chemically treated hair, which has been stressed and weakened. This can improve the appearance, and shine. It can also serve to strengthen the hair and promote healthy regrowth.

After the initial washing, towel blot, till nearly dry though slightly damp. There are a wide variety of conditioning treatments available. I recommend any of Aveda's excellent products. They incorporate essential oils, and deeply penetrating proteins to ensure healthy locks. Whichever treatment you opt for you want to begin at the scalp and hair root. Comb hair into fine partings. The product is applied at the base. Make certain it is evenly distributed all throughout the scalp. When this is accomplished, you may begin a massage employing a circular motion with the fingertips. This step will aid the clearing of the scalp, and increase circulation. After a vigorous massage of ten minutes or so, you now want to work the product through to the hair ends. You may wish to add more if the ends are particularly frayed, or split. After making certain all the hair is thoroughly saturated, you will want to wrap the hair in a warm towel, or clear plastic wrap to lock the heat it, allowing for maximum penetration. It is recommended that the conditioning treatment remain on the hair for 30 minutes or so.

You may wish to employ heat for a more effective treatment. This will open the cuticle for deeper penetration. You can use a hand held dryer, but the flip top lid type is most effective. These can be purchased at a beauty supply store. Either way, make certain the heat is evenly distributed. You don't want to overdo this; excessive heat can be counterproductive. If the hair is well wrapped and sealed, heat from the scalp alone can suffice.

When the half-hour or so is up it's time to rinse. Begin with warm water and thoroughly rinse for at least 5 minutes. If the treatment is especially thick, you may wish to wash lightly with a detoxifying shampoo.

Either way rinse thoroughly and make certain you finish up with cool water. The cooler temperature will close the follicle and lock in the moisture. When done, towel blot. Heat drying is not recommended at this point, because you are trying to lock in the moisture and not further damage the hair. Until your next washing let the hair air dry and style as usual.

To maintain a healthy coif, excessive washing and blow-drying should be avoided. Also it is vital not to over condition. This can lead to product buildup and leave the hair dull and flat. A good conditioning treatment every couple weeks or so can really improve the hairs condition and leave it shiny and full of life!
