But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you as a great harvest
For many people the importance of harvest time is not really known. Many people today do not understand the importance of harvesting the crops. All of us want to eat and enjoy the benefits of the harvest, but so few of us are aware of the work and time involved in harvesting the crop so that we can eat.
In days of old people would stop all that they were doing when harvest time approached and they would join together to bring in the crops. Even then though, the workers to help with the harvest were scarce.
Jesus said in Matthew 9 to pray for laborers.
Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.
Jesus says that the harvest is plenteous but the laborers are few. It seems that all throughout time man has desired to reap, but few have desired to work. Jesus called for harvest workers. He said to pray for workers to bring in the harvest. So what makes a good harvest worker?
Matthew 6:33 says,
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
So a good harvest worker is someone that seeks first the things of God and His righteousness. Are those the two top things in your life? If they are not what is?
Think about this for a moment. What is the most important thing in your life. Are you a faithful person ready to drop all things to help with the harvest? Are you willing to drop all things at any cost and follow Christ into the harvest? If God calls you to step out and travel the country preaching the Word, will you? Is your appetite for God as strong or stronger than your appetite for material things?
Take a look at your desire for physical things compared to your desire for Spiritual things. Which one are you most willing to neglect? Which one is most important to you? Lack of either one brings about severe consequences. Lack of physical food causes sickness, sadness and even death. Lack of Spiritual food causes sickness, sadness and even death. Lack of both cause the same things to happen, yet, so many are willing to go without Spiritual food.
Are you a harvest worker? Are you willing to drop all things to help with the harvest? Do you have a love for people? Jesus had such a love for people that He gave His life. Is there any greater love than this?
The harvest is plenteous but the laborers are few. More and more we can witness the lack of humanity in the world today. Jesus gave the greatest gift in the world, yet, so many refuse it. He gave His life for everyone""the criminal, the homeless, the undesirable, your enemies, your loved ones, everyone is welcome to receive from Him. His harvest is for the world.
Are you ready to step in and lend a hand to bring forth the harvest? Are you hungry enough to drop all that you are doing to bring in the crops. Are you hungry enough to say, "Here am I Lord, I'll Go"? The harvest is plenteous, the hearts and souls of the people of the world are ripe and ready to be harvested, but the laborers are few.
Give yourself over to Christ and help feed the hungering nations. Let the Word of God fill your heart to overflowing so that you can become a harvest worker""joyful, disciplined, faithful, and full of love.
