Haunted sites in los angeles

Planning a visit to Los Angeles? During the day, visit the normal tourist sites, but be sure to save your nights to visit some of its haunted sites.

When we think of Los Angeles, California, we often think first of its glitzy presence with all of the famous celebrities who make this city their home. Movie theaters, film studios and stars are abundant in the streets of Los Angeles. With such a rich history of budding starlets and struggling performers, there is bound to be a dark side to the glitz and glam. If you plan on stopping to visit Los Angeles, be sure to save some time to tour some of its haunted sites like the famous Hollywood sign, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and the Comedy Club.

In the days of Old Hollywood, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel was the place to be seen as some of our greatest film stars often stayed there, including Shirley Temple, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Charlie Chaplin and Greta Garbo. Two stars, however, have made the hotel their permanent residence as sightings of their ghosts have been reported by employees and guests. In a room often used by Marilyn Monroe, there was a large wooden mirror which has since been moved to the lobby near the elevators. Many guests have reported seeing the image of the beautiful star inside the mirror. Another "resident" is Montgomery Clift who lodged at this hotel for a few months while filming the classic "From Here to Eternity." Room #928, his old lodging, is reported to have several cold spots and some guests have said they felt a hand on their shoulder while staying in there.

Everybody recognizes the famous Hollywood sign that overlooks all of Los Angeles. Throughout the ages, actors have flocked to Hollywood to get their big break in the movie business, never realizing what a struggle they have before them. They are inspired by the Hollywood sign and envision lives of fame and glory, and some who spend years auditioning and receiving neither often feel there is nothing left to live for. Thus, there have been many suicides off the Hollywood sign, including one that haunts to this day. In the 1930s, one such starlet named Peg Entwistle who found herself in many Broadway failures flung herself off the letter "H" on the sign. Many have reported seeing a blond woman dressed in 1930s clothing hanging around the Hollywood sign. There are some that have even smelled her favorite scented gardenia perfume in this area.

On Sunset Boulevard is the famous "Comedy Club" which many consider to be the jumping off point for many of today's most famous comedians, including Jim Carrey, Robin Williams and Gary Shandling. This club, however, has a much different history with its links to the mob during the 1940s when it was originally a club called Ciro's. Many employees have sensed a paranormal presence in the basement, where it is thought most of the mob activities occurred. There have been reports of moving chairs and apparitions from many of the club's employees. The late comedian Sam Kinison often spoke of the ghosts who continuously heckled him when he was on stage performing.
