Plan on taking in the sun and beaches of beautiful Miami, Florida? You may also want to book some time to visit some of its more haunted sites, too.
From the "Golden Girls" to the nightlife of South Beach, Miami is a retreat for both young and old. Its beautiful weather and equally gorgeous beaches offer much for the eye and the soul. It boasts a population full of diversity as many people of different nationalities make Miami their permanent home. The architecture, shopping, restaurants and clubs are much different from anywhere else, and there is something for every member of your family to enjoy. After days of baking in the sun, roller-blading along the coast or shopping up a storm, be sure to take some time to visit some of the more haunted sites of Miami, especially if you love a good ghost story.
With its beautiful tower as a beacon in the skyline, the Biltmore Hotel makes its luxurious presence known. Guests marvel at the old-world feel of the Biltmore hotel with its classy leather furnishings and the finches that make residence in bird cages in the lobby. Opening its doors almost eighty years ago, the hotel has had more than enough time to fill its historical quota and its spiritual one, as well. According to guests and employees of the Biltmore Hotel, room 702 is said to be haunted and there have even been images captured of this ghost. Also, the 13th floor which once housed a speakeasy back in the day is said to be haunted by the spirit of Fats Walsh, an old friend of Al Capone's. Fats was murdered on the 13th floor of this hotel and is said to have made the Biltmore his final resting place. Some say you can still see the bloodstains from his murder on the floor of the bathroom in the 13th floor suite while others say that Fats often causes the elevator to stop on the 13th floor without provocation.
The vibrantly pink hotel with the pink and white striped awnings known as the Clay Hotel is also said to have its own unexplained happenings. Again, there is a link to the infamous Al Capone who once opened up a casino in this hotel. Room 202 is said to have been the site of the murder of a couple. Of course the mob is blamed for the murder. The front desk employees of this hotel often receive calls from this room despite the fact that the room is vacant.
The Marlin Hotel with its super-hero-like font in the front is a true Miami gem, when it comes to hotel accommodations. From the attentive staff to the spacious accommodations, the Marlin offers guests a hotel about which to rave and to visit year after year. However, for all its glory, the Marlin also has a different side to it, a side more spiritual and haunting. The staff at the Marlin will note that almost every single night, guests staying at the hotel will call to the front desk to mention the children that play non-stop in the hallways. They have heard these children as they laugh and giggle through the night, but there are never any children actually there, or at least not any living children.
