First, it increases your upper body strength, particularly in the lats, forearms, biceps and shoulders; your core strength from coordinating upper and lower body involvement at the same time. For cardiovascular, it benefits if you have to hike in to the area you're climbing (my favorite, alpine style). Psychological challenges of trying something that can be pretty scary and mastering your fear; and the emotional benefits of being out in the wilderness enjoying nature and having fun with friends.
