Mobile is over 300 years old and we can trace our roots back to 1702 when the French recognized our area and located the first capital of the Louisiana Territory here. From there we were involved in the Spanish and Civil Wars. Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines down at the mouth of the Mobile Bay, which operated during the Civil War, are both open to visitors. We are a port city so there have been a lot of diverse cargo and travelers passing through who left their mark and legacy on the art, architecture, food, religion and family names. Mobile is one of the oldest cities in the United States, so there's a lot for the history buff to see.
