Angels are one of the most popular and beloved Christmas decorations. Almost everyone enjoys decorating for the holidays with beautiful angels. You can easily make the following impressive angel ornaments and decorations to display in your home, or you can make them to give as gifts to friends, co-workers, and loved ones. These festive Christmas craft projects are easy to make for kids as well as adults. They’re great to put together as a group project, and they are very popular items at church fund-raisers and Christmas craft sales. These unique angel ornaments and decorations are sure to be a hit no matter what you decide to use them for.
For the first angel craft project you will need a white mollusk shell approximately 2 -3 inches in diameter for the angel’s body, a 1 inch in diameter iridescent white plastic bead for the angel’s head, a 1 inch long string of gold beads for the halo, an 8 inch long piece of ½ inch wide gold satin ribbon, a 4 inch long piece of gold elastic string, a hot glue gun, glue sticks, spray adhesive, newspapers, and gold or iridescent glitter.
Begin by protecting your work surface with newspapers. Open a window for ventilation, and spray the ribbed side of a clean white mollusk shell with spray-on adhesive. While the adhesive is still tacky, generously sprinkle on gold or iridescent glitter. Allow the glue to dry completely before continuing.
Preheat your hot glue gun, and attach the iridescent white plastic bead to the flat top of the mollusk shell. This will form the angel’s head. Complete the head by attaching a gold beaded halo using hot glue. Allow the glue a few minutes to dry while holding the halo in place.
Tie a neat bow using the ½ inch wide gold ribbon. Make sure both loops are even, and hot glue the center of the bow to the back of the angel just below the head. Hold the bow in place until the glue sets and the bow is secure.
Complete the angel by tying a loop of gold elastic string around the neck. Either hang the angel with just the elastic thread, or attach a wire hanger to the thread. Place it on the Christmas tree next to a twinkling light. This ornament will add angelic beauty to your Christmas tree or the tree of any recipient.
The next angel decoration requires a 2 ¼ inch gold bell, a wooden bead approximately 1 inch in diameter, a 1 inch long string of gold beads, a 4 inch long piece of gold elastic string, an 8 inch long piece of 1 inch wide wire and satin iridescent ribbon, a 2 ½ inch long piece of white lace, a hot glue gun, glue sticks, newspapers, small paintbrushes, water, and acrylic craft paint for the face of the angel.
Begin by covering your work area with newspapers, and paint the wooden bead with flesh colored acrylic paint. After the paint has dried, paint two black dots for the eyes. Highlight the eyes with dots of white paint. Give the angel rosy pink cheeks to complete the face. It is not necessary to add a nose and mouth, but you can if you wish. Set the wooden bead aside to dry before continuing.
After the head is completely dry, preheat your hot glue gun. While the glue gun is warming up, string a 4 inch long piece of gold elastic thread through the hole in the top of the wooden bead. Tie a large knot beneath the bead to hold the string securely. Glue the head to the top of the gold bell, and hold the head in place until the glue sets. To complete the head, glue on a halo of gold beads.
After the head is securely attached to the body, glue the 2 ½ inch long piece of lace around the neck of the angel so it resembles a collar. Tie an attractive bow using the 8 inch length of wire ribbon, and glue it just below the head of the angel. Hold the bow in place until the glue sets. Bend the wires to expose the angel’s face, and thoughtfully arrange the rest of the ribbon. Your completed angel is now ready to hang, sell, or present as a unique and thoughtful holiday gift.
