Calendar collages are great to make when you have old calendars lying around the house. Do not throw these away! The pictures can be used to make beautiful, creative collages. Make sure that any calendar you plan to use is appropriate! To complete these collages, you will need calendar pages, magazines, scissors, cardboard, a hole punch, string, and glue.
For this collage, each person should have one calendar page. Usually landscape scenes work best, but you can make funny collages from any sort of calendar picture! Attach the calendar page to a piece of cardboard with Elmer’s glue. This will make the picture more sturdy and able to hold a fair amount of glue without becoming weak. Depending on the thickness of your calendar and magazine pages, you may want to use a glue stick instead of Elmer’s glue. This will stick just as well, but will not make the magazine pages wrinkle as much.
Next, start clipping pictures from magazines that you would like to include in your collage. There are many great ideas for incorporating magazine pictures into your collage! You can add people to a landscape scene. You can also mix together several landscape scenes, perhaps from other calendar pages. You can also add other landscape elements, like trees, clouds, sun, beaches, and so on.
You can also add text to a plain picture by cutting letters or phrases from the magazines. Your collage could represent things that are interesting to you. Use this art project to express yourself.
Try cutting out different parts of faces and piecing them together! You can cut out a head and add it to a different body, or put different body parts together. If your original calendar page featured figures like puppies or people, try dressing them up! A puppy would surely look funny with some extra arms, and people would look equally as strange with paws! Be creative, but try to keep part of the original calendar paper still visible!
When you have pieced together your collage, let it dry. Using the hole punch, make two holes in the top of the cardboard, approximately three inches apart from each other. Cut a string of string and tie each end of the string into one of these holes. You can now hang your calendar collage somewhere around the house for all to admire!
If you would like to make a bigger collage, use a larger piece of cardboard. You can even by a large piece of foam board from a local arts and craft store. To complete this collage with calendar pages, use several together. Attempt to piece together the calendar pages in an artistic manner so that each of the pages blends with the other instead of being clearly different. You can cover up any hard edges with magazine cutouts. Also, you can use elements of landscape in order to make a border for your collage. This works best with larger collages because the borders can be too wide for smaller collages.
