Ever look at some adorable baby pictures and wish you could afford to hire a photographer to follow your child around like the paparazzi? While most of us can’t afford our own personal photographer, we can take better pictures. Of course, parents will always take advantage of those photography specials at local discount stores and supermarkets, but have you ever noticed that some of the most eye-catching photographs aren’t the posed ones, but the impromptu pictures?

How can you get these poses? Digital photography makes it so much easier for you to become a great photographer. After all, a digital camera allows you to take as many pictures as you like. If you don’t like some of the pictures, then erase them! It’s that easy. You can save the ones you like and print them yourself or take them to a drug store, photo store, grocery store, or supermarket. Great picture taking has never been easier!

Various digital camera programs also allow you to play with your photos. Many programs allow you to load them on your computer, and then change the image to black and white, sepia, or even cartoon. You can erase red eye, cut out excess background, lighten or darken, and even enhance your photographs, and you can do all of this with a click of the mouse.

Of course, digital technology can only do so much. You still need to take a great picture. Once you get the hang of it, however, it isn’t that hard. It is important to fill your photo space with your child, not with excess background. If you try to get too much background, you end up drawing attention away from the main focus-your adorable son or daughter. Don’t worry if you don’t get all of his body; just get close and concentrate on capturing his adorable face with all of its expressions.

You don’t have to make every picture a posed one, and your child doesn’t always have to be smiling. Follow your child around and simply snap image after image. You’ll have better pictures if you get down on your child’s level. As she plays in the floor, simply sit or lay down close to her. She may be interested in your camera at first, but once she loses interest, begin snapping those pictures.

Some of the best pictures are taken outside using the natural light of the day. Follow your child around as she plays. Try and capture some of her innocent expressions of joy. If she is still an infant, focus on her own special parts, such as tiny fingers and toes. These would make great nursery photographs.

It’s alright to photograph your child even if she isn’t in one of her happiest moods. The point is to capture memories. Take pictures of her trying to feed herself. Take pictures of her with the family pet. Snap a picture of him as he lies peacefully in his bed. If he loves to look at books, snap one of him concentrating on a favorite story. The beach makes a great setting for pictures. Snap pictures of your child as he chases the sea gulls or dips his toes into the waves. Photograph him as he seriously works on a sand castle. Just make sure you get up close and personal. An ideal time to take beach pictures is late afternoon or on a cloudy day. This way the sun isn’t so bright, and your child won’t be squinting.

There really isn’t any limit to the amount and types of pictures you can take of your special little one. Of course, you will probably want some of your pictures to be posed, but you need to be willing to capture your child as she really is. Finally, remember to relax and have fun. You are making memories that will last a lifetime.
