Gas vs. electric golf carts

Gas versus electric equals power speed versus reliabilty.

Which cart is better for 18 holes of an amazing day of golf?

Well, clearly, it depends highly upon what it is you are looking for in a golf cart, and what type of course you are playing this fine afternoon.

Electric carts with their sluggish starts and ease in power makes them safer to drive, but the power that is lost is something to be considered. If the course which you are playing has many hills and not many cart paths to drive on, the electric cart that you have chosen may conk out on you at the 15th hole, or may have to be left behind while you trudge to the tee box. Then, the fatigue begins to factor into your game, and you play horribly from 16 thru 18 to end the day on a downer.

Gas carts are powerful and faster than electric carts, and therefore potentially more dangerous. But on many hilly courses that do not usually have adequate cart paths, you will need both the extra power and speed to driver correctly thru fairways and roughs to safely play your ball. Plus, for the handful of elevated tee boxes you may encounter, the gas powered carts allow you to drive right up and hit your ball straight and true, preserving your round when most players are showing signs of fatigue.

As a weekend golfer, you need a cart that is both reliable and safe. This contributes to your overall afternoon of enjoyment and good play that all golfers strive for every time they tee it up. Gas carts clearly contributes much more to the experienced player than an electric cart will. Another consideration is that the course in which you play needs to have adequate rangers and caddies who know exactly how to handle the pre- and post- golf aspects of the game.

If, as many courses do, the assistance is that of the high school or college student looking to gain the extra buck, consider this.

Electric carts need constant charging, which takes time. Gas carts need only to be filled up. The time necessary to charge the electric carts might be something that is overlooked by the youth of this nation, and they may then send you as a golfer out to the first tee with a cart that will be dying by the turn, and dead by the 16th. Rather than risk that, the gas powered cart would clearly be the way to go. Anyone can fill a gas tank. In fact, most of the youth at the course moonlight as precisely that: gas attendant.

Power and speed are the deciding factor in choosing a gas powered golf cart over an electric cart. Although electric carts are inherently safer due to their sluggish starting and stopping (you never REALLY get going in an electric cart), a gas powered golf cart gives every golfer all they need to play a satisfying round of golf. And if any golfer has one less thing to worry about out there on the course, that will now and forever be a good thing. Every golfer will be able to keep their eye on the ball and their head down as they drive their gas powered golf cart safely through 18 holes of spectacular play.
