There are many easy crafts to make during the Halloween season, but not all of these crafts can be worn by children! Making spooky ghost pins is easy to do, and children love to make and wear these around Halloween. In order to make these pins, you will need white cotton balls, craft eyes, scissors, pin backs, hot glue guns, Elmer’s glue, and white fabric.

To start, each child should have his or her own cotton ball and two craft eyes. Using Elmer’s glue, have each child attach the two eyes to their cotton balls. This is the face of the ghost. In order to make the body of the ghost, you will need to use the white fabric. There are many different types of bodies that can be made. A basic body would require a box-like shape of fabric which would be glued to the back of the ghost head. Another idea is cutting out a box-like shape from the fabric but shredding it and fraying it for a spookier-looking ghost body. Be creative! Pick a design that suits you, cut it from the fabric, and then attach it to the back of the ghost head using Elmer’s glue. Some recommended fabrics include linen, silk, satin, muslin, cotton, and tulle. Try using a combination of the fabrics for a more country-looking pin!

It is important that the next part of this craft is done only by an adult. Hot glue guns can get very, very hot and can be extremely dangerous if used by someone who does not know how to properly use a glue gun. Make sure that the adult using the hot glue gun is well versed in the safety aspects regarding glue guns. The adult should attach one pin backing to the head of each ghost. These pin backings can be bought inexpensively and in bulk at most craft stores. Allow the glue to dry completely. The pin is now wearable!

There are other ideas for crafty Halloween pins that are very similar to this craft. Multicolored craft pompons come in handy when making Halloween pins. For example, an orange pompon can be turned into a pumpkin pin. Add two craft eyes, a felt leaf, and a brown pipe cleaner stem. Then attach the pin backing using the method mentioned above. You can also make a witch pin by using a green pompon and adding construction paper elements such as a black hat and large nose with moles. You can even make a construction paper broomstick to place behind the head to emphasize the idea of a witch. Try making several pumpkins or witches on one pin, or make several of each and wear them together!

These pins make great gifts for children to give their teachers, friends, neighbors, and family members. These pins can also be placed on clothing, shoes, or school bags. Make sure the children are careful, however, because the pins have sharp points that could pose a threat. Teach children about safety and sharp objects before doing this craft!
