Handball is an active sport that requires a player to run, jump, and make plenty of fast movements. Part of being successful at the game, is a player's ability to make these moves without losing his or her balance. The player must also avoid slipping or falling on the playing surface. Therefore, selecting and purchasing the right type of shoes goes a long way in helping him or her achieve these goals, and play the best Handball game that they can.

In selecting the right shoe, a type of athletic shoe probably comes to your mind. There are so many brands and types on the market today, though, that it can make it hard to determine which one would be the best shoe to wear while you're playing hardball. While some athletic shoes are fancier-looking than others, a colorful, striped shoe with a famous brand name on it won't help your handball game at all. The kind of shoe that will actually help you to play better is a leather shoe that has a sturdy rubber sole. Leather is the best material for any type of shoes to be made of because it allows your feet to "breathe." Your feet are less likely to sweat because leather shoes allow air to circulate around your feet.

Another characteristic to look for in a good pair of athletic shoes to play handball in is its weight. A clunky pair of shoes can only make you seem like you have two left feet. On the other hand, lightweight shoes that have a skid-resistant rubber sole can enable you to move around the playing surface with more speed and agility.

And, you must consider any special physical needs you have to. Such as, if you suffer from weak ankles, or even minor pain in your knees, a pair of high topped athletic shoes can offer your joints needed support. Or, if you have weak, painful, or fallen arches, then you'll need to select an athletic shoe that will also support that area of your feet.

Of course, the most important characteristic that any pair of shoes you buy needs to have is a comfortable fit. Going to a "brick and mortar" shoe store gives you the advantage of physically trying on shoes and actually walking around in them. Shopping out of a catalog, on the other hand, leaves you trying to select the best pair of shoes by descriptive pictures and words alone.

When you visit a shoe store to select your shoes, make sure that you wear the same type of socks that you'll be wearing when you play Handball. Or, at least take a pair of athletic socks with you that you can slip on before you start trying shoes on. That way, the shoes will fit exactly as they need to, without being too loose or too tight, because the thickness of the socks will be the same.

Here's another word of advice about selecting athletic shoes: Be sure that you try both shoes on, not just one. Just like other parts of our bodies- our ears, eyes, and hands- our feet are not exactly the same size. Therefore, the left shoe of a pair of shoes that we select for Handball might feel fine. But, the right shoe might not feel so comfortable.

And finally, make sure that you get the proper size of shoes that you need. Make sure that your feet don't move freely back and forth, or from side to side in the shoes. As with any pair of shoes, check the fit by feeling the toes of the shoes. There should be about a half of an inch of room between your big toes and the ends of the shoes. If there's not that much room in the ends, then you'll need to try on a pair of shoes that is a half size or a full size larger.
