Do you love snow globes, and wish you could create your own? Guess what? You can! Read on for simple step-by-step instructions to show you how:

The first step to making a snow globe is finding the perfect jar. Since jars come in all sizes and shapes, you’ll want to spend a little time selecting the one that’s just right for your snow globe.

You can rinse out an old peanut butter jar, if you have one around, or even repurpose a canning jar. Just be sure to choose a jar that seals tight. (Jars with rubber sealing rings work especially well.) To test your jar for leaks, fill it with water, screw the lid on tight and then turn it over. If water seeps out, you’ll want to find another jar. A leaky snow globe just won’t do.

Once, you’ve chosen your jar, it’s time to move on to designing your snow globe. Start by deciding what kind of scene you want to feature in your globe. It can be an outdoors scene, a nativity or even a miniature replica of your living room. The choice is entirely yours.

After you’ve decided on a scene, it’s time to decide what materials you’ll need to create it. For the ultimate in ease, you can use pre-made plastic figurines and objects to fill your snow globe, or if you prefer a more hands-on approach, you can create your own objects out of craft foam.

If this is your preferred method, just purchase a few sheets of craft foam from your local craft store, and then cut out your scenery using a pair of scissors. You can even use real photos of people and places if you’d like. For this approach, just select the photos you want to use, and then take them to a quick-print shop to have them laminated.

Then, once all of your scenery is ready, it’s time to start assembling your snow globe. For this step you’ll need a good strong glue, like crazy glue.

Begin by placing a little glue on the bottom of the first object you want to place in your snow globe. Then place some glue on the inside of the jar where you want to place your object. Next, stick the object down into the jar, and repeat the process until all of your objects have been placed in the jar.

Then, it’s time to create the snow for your snow globe. You can create snow quickly and easily by sprinkling some glitter into your jar. However, if you’d like something a bit more eye-catching, metallic confetti can also be used. (Check your local craft store for confetti in a wide variety of shapes and colors. You can probably even find snowflake shaped confetti, if you’d like.)

Finish by filling your jar with water, and firmly screwing the lid in place. Your snow globe is now ready to enjoy!

Note: If you’d like to dress up your snow globe even more, just glue a ribbon around the lid.
