Valentine’s Day is a really fun holiday to make crafts with your kids. There are numerous projects you can choose from: candies, cookies, cards or decorations. What ever project you decide on will surely make for a great afternoon of fun with your kids.
Valentines Puppet
This would be a great project to do with a preschool age child. Materials needed: red white or pink construction paper, glue or tape, crayons and straws. Draw and cut out a heart shape from your piece of construction paper. You can also cut strips of paper to make hair as well as arms and legs. Have your child decorate the heart and other pieces with the crayons and when they are done attach and arms and legs to the heart with tape or glue. After that attach the straw to the back of the heart, let dry if you used glue, and then enjoy playing with the puppet you made.
Crispy Kisses
These could make neat treats for a school Valentines party
Materials needed: rice krispies, butter, marshmallows, 4oz funnel, aluminum foil, paper tag and marker or pen
Make a batch of rice krispie treats then scoop the warm mix into a lightly greased four ounce funnel to shape it to look like a large Hershey's Kiss. After they cool wrap them in aluminum foil and add a paper tag that says “A Kiss from_____ (child’s name)
Love Coupons
Love coupons would be another fun and simple project to do with kids of any age. Use your computers word processing program to design them. You can find free graphics you can use on the internet to decorate them. You can make coupons for hugs and kisses, a movie night, with a little creative thinking you can come up with a whole coupon book of fun coupons
Why I love you kit
There are many different variations of this. You can decorate a small box and for an example put in the following:
Jolly Rancher - for all the times you make me laugh
Hugs & Kisses - yours are simply the best
100,000 Bar - .you are worth more than a hundred grand to me
Skittles - for the rainbow of colors you show me
Chocolate Kiss mice
Materials needed: Two wrapped chocolate kisses, 2x2 squares of pink or red construction paper, thread, wiggle eyes, very small pom-pom, craft glue
Cut a 1-2 inch tall heart from the paper.
Place it between the two kisses (bottom to bottom) and secure them with glue. This is the mouse body and the heart makes the ears. Remove one of the paper tags to make room for the face. Then use your craft glue to attach wiggle eyes, thread whiskers and a pom-pom nose. The other paper tag is the tail.
Candy Cane Hearts
If you have any leftover candy canes from Christmas you can make Candy cane hearts. Criss-cross the canes to make a heart and attach them together with hot glue. Then use ribbon or yarn to decorate.
