Are you tired of finding kitty litter surrounding your kitty litter box? Are you tired of scooping out clumps or spending tons of cash on wasted kitty litter? The solution is easy. Make your own kitty litter box. You can add a sifter to sift out those clumps more easily. You can add design and color to make your kitty litter box fit in with the rest of your home. The materials are easy to find and the amount is not expensive.

First, let’s start with the box, which doesn’t have to be a box or square. Cardboard is the least expensive, however, it isn’t the ideal material for a kitty litter box. The cardboard will soak up fluids and eventually fall apart. If you don’t want to be burdened with changing the cardboard periodically, the best material for the job is plastic. You can turn any plastic container into a kitty litter box. This gives you the opportunity to pick shapes and colors that blend in with your décor.

To reduce mess you will want to follow some guidelines in selecting your kitty litter box. Pick a container that has enough surface area for your cat. Think of the size of your feline when deciding this. Also remember that he will be kicking dirt around. You don’t want it to be too small. Also, you will want the container to be deep enough to hold an adequate amount of kitty litter without letting the kitty litter spill out onto the ground.

Next, you may want to put in a sifter. What is a sifter? It is a container with about the same dimensions as the kitty litter box. The only difference, besides being small enough to fit inside the kitty litter box, is the fact that it will have holes. The sifter is put inside of the kitty litter box before the kitty litter is poured in. Than when the kitty litter has a few clumps, you will carefully lift the sifter so that the kitty litter will fall back into the kitty litter box without the clumps. This will save on kitty litter and also save you from having to scoop.

Now, how do find the sifter? Well some ideas include using dish strainer. Another idea is using a kind of netting. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Also, you shouldn’t go out buy these item as they can be found at yard sales or just lying around the house. The exception to this rule is if you are trying to create a kitty litter box based on fashion or design. In this case the amount you spend depends on what the design of your home is worth.

In any case, you can create your own kitty litter box with little effort using materials you find around the house, or you can go buy one that may or may not fit your needs. The key is to use your imagination and keep your needs in mind.
