When one looks at the Zodiac wheel, it becomes rather obvious that the signs of Capricorn the goat and Cancer the crab are straight across from each other. This 180-degree difference denotes opposite signs. However, earth and water signs are not wholly incompatible; they tend to mix well when the parties understand the other’s needs.
Capricorns are generally very stable, and this can lend strength to the often instability of a Cancer. Despite a Capricorn’s general stability, however, mood swings can be very apparent, and, because Cancer is emotional, a complete emotional meltdown of the situation can result when both are having a bad day.
Cancer is, for the most part, very home-oriented. Cancer women especially tend to feel best in a cozy home setting. Cancers are very nurturing, and this can be very soothing to the practical Capricorn. The flip-side to Cancer’s very giving nature, however, is emotional neediness. Cancers expect the same loving attention that they give returned by their partners. Cancers may become discontent with the apparent lack of emotional interest from their Capricorn partners.
Additionally, Cancer will find him or herself most likely the one to do the seducing when it comes to sexual relations. Capricorns are very driven and focused career-wise, so they may not notice, or feel comfortable expressing, their sexual desires. However, the sparks can fly when Cancer initiates sexual encounters. Capricorn, once his/her interest is aroused, can easily shift that drive and focus to a mutually satisfying sexual experience. The chemistry is definitely there.
Because both Cancer and Capricorn are very loyal, there are very few fidelity problems once two of these people enter a committed relationship. Capricorn, however, is much more likely to voice any discontent s/he might have with the relationship, and Cancer is more likely to try to find a solution that satisfies Capricorn. Cancer, ever mindful of others’ feelings, is also more likely to suffer in silence and may have a tendency to either become bitter or to lose him or herself in fantasy.
Additionally, both are very good at managing money. They are shrewd, and Capricorn especially decries waste and extravagance. However, Capricorn can easily become annoyed if Cancer is financially dependent on him/her. Capricorn is very independent and self-oriented. S/he feels the necessity of pursuing interests separate from those of a partner’s. Because Cancer is a more codependent personality, s/he might not understand Capricorn’s insistence that s/he find a hobby, or develop a career.
Home life can be good for a Cancer-Capricorn pairing if the two understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Capricorn must learn that a homemaking Cancer is contributing just as much to the mutual functioning of the home, even if s/he isn’t doing so financially. Cancer must be patient and willing to understand Capricorn’s limitations when it comes to expressing love and tenderness.
Any romantic commitment is challenging, and Cancer and Capricorn’s challenges are only slightly more challenging than other couples’ (and less challenging than some signs). However, the loyal natures of these two signs can make for a pair that is truly interested in making the relationship work. With some understanding and even some attempts to stray from instinctual tendencies, this relationship can work to the benefit of both parties.
