Accidents happen in homes on a regular basis, at great costs to the medical profession. How to avoid an accident in the homes by simple safety programs.
For those of us who are parents, It can be a nightmarish time when our young ones are out of eyesight. Why so? Because of accidents that can happen within our so-called safe haven home, Especially in such as our kitchens, laundries, etc. What might seem as normal places to put things for us, can be lethal in the wrong hands. Such things as: Hot Kettles, Power points, tools, and even kitchen cutlery.
So what can we as parents do to ensure the safety of our children in our own homes?
First it is important to realize that there are steps that can be taken to drastically reduce the chance of any home accidents. Safety experts say that over 90% of all accidents could have been prevented. They happen because of lack of information, carelessness,or unsafe conditions.
Here are some basic steps that we as parents can take to protect our children:
1) Protect your small children from falling out of windows or down stairs by installing protective grates or gates. Keep all floors in good condition and not too highly polished as this will make them very slippery.
2) Make sure that all electrical outlets have safety covers on them. We all know how curious those little hands can be. This will cut the risk of electrocution.
3) Make sure that all sinks, bathtubs etc. are properly attached to the walls.
4) Don't let your children play with matches, lighters, knives, scissors etc. Make sure that they know why it is dangerous to play with these things.
5) Always make sure that pots and pans on the stove are turned with their handles facing the center of the stove, this will help prevent our children grabbing hold of the handles and tipping the contents over themselves.
6) Drugs, Detergents, cleaning chemicals should all be kept well out of our child's reach.Very often we hear of cases where our child would think that the chemical in the bottle is a juice to drink, thus causing them all kinds of problems.
7) Never keep firearms unlocked lying around the house, this can be deadly, and recent shootings reported show that they have been caused by curious children at home playing with what they thought was a toy gun.
8) Be careful as to what chemicals we may use around the home. Some can be very dangerous and inflammable.
9) Never put flowerpots or heavy objects on windowsills or small ledges. If they fall off they can cause some nasty injuries.
We as parents need to be very careful when it comes to our child's safety, especially in our own homes.
More than all else we need to constantly watch what our child is up too, as this can save save their lives.
Even if we think that things are safe, we need to check them on a regular basis. Wear and tear can make our possessions unsafe for our children, so make sure that things are regularly maintained.
Then we as parents will have the comfort of knowing that our child is safe in our own home.
