You have a gorgeous yard, one where you have spent hours pruning, watering, mowing, and planting. There are wandering paths and fruit trees, accented by flowers and different kinds of grasses. Unfortunately, it is hard to see at night. You have tripped off the paths more than once, and are concerned that someone else might as well, a possible blow to your homeowner’s insurance. Besides, your yard is beautiful, and passersby should be able to appreciate it, even only if in part, at night. You need to put in landscape lighting. Why not consider solar lights?

Solar lighting has many benefits to offer. For one, it saves on electricity and helps keep down your electrical bill. You will not have to find a convenient, or actually an inconvenient, outlet in which to plug your solar lights. You simply let them charge up in the sunlight and they are good to go.

Speaking of inconvenient electrical outlets and things that are plugged into them, you will not have to dig up your yard and bury any electrical cords when using solar lights. Solar lights do not have any cords. Therefore, you do not have to plan for a massive upheaval in your yard when you decide to add lighting. Solar lights are attached to metal or plastic “stakes” that are easily knocked or pushed into the ground.

Talk about flexibility! Since there are no wires to worry about digging up, you can experiment with your lighting until you place your lights just the way you like them. Or, you can change your lighting seasonally to accent different plants at different times of the year without any fuss. You can even re-landscape and move your lights without any hassle.

Are there different styles available? Absolutely. Manufacturers have increased the number of shapes and sizes as the popularity and demand for solar lighting has increased. There are even solar security lights available to make your property even safer.

What about the wattage of solar landscape lighting? Solar landscape lighting does not provide as strong a light as standard lighting. However, the light is softer and more diffused, giving a light with far less glare. Many people prefer this, as it gives their landscaping a different, softer look.

Do the lights stay on all through the night, every night? It depends on the length of sunlight exposure that you have every day. During the summer months, you will have lighting on from dusk to dawn. In temperate climates, solar landscape lights may not last completely through the night, but they will certainly stay lit until you are tucked away in your bed. In areas with harsh winter climates, many people use landscaping lights for accenting only, pulling up their solar lights during the fall and putting them back out in the spring.

Do solar lights cost more than conventional lights? Yes, they do. However, as mentioned earlier, they do save on your electric bill. In addition, you have the pleasure of knowing that you are conserving energy for the future.

Solar lighting is available through many outlets. They can be purchased online, through nurseries, and through your local home center. They are easy to install and to use. Solar landscape lighting provides flexibility in accenting your yard. You can conserve energy and save on your electric bill. Why not try them out?
