Having a swimming pool in your backyard can be a cool way to enjoy the summer with your family, friends, and neighbors. There are several brands of in-ground swimming pool kits that you can choose from. But, before you buy, you have to decide if this is the right choice for you. There are several pros and cons of owning and installing this type of pool, as opposed to installing an above-ground pool.
The first con is that installing an in-ground swimming pool is a commitment. Obviously, it will take up a certain amount of your space in the backyard . And, once you install it, it's there to stay. If you decide later that you would like to change the landscaping of your backyard, your plans will have to be made to work around the pool.
Another con is that an in-ground swimming pool also requires that you obtain the proper permits from your local codes and permits department. This means more time, red tape and legwork for you.
On the other hand, an above-ground pool can be taken down or moved if you choose. If you move to another house, for example, you could easily take your above-ground pool with you. Or, you can take it down and sell it if you choose to. Some models are weatherproof and can be left up all year long, no matter what climate you live in. Other models can't withstand the harsh cold and snow of a northern winter, so they must be taken down every fall. And, of course, put back up the following spring. This can be a hassle that an in-ground swimming pool kit avoids.
Besides being movable, an above-ground pool is easier to put up. Because there are not as much labor and materials involved, it is considerably easier on your pocket book too. So, there's another con: an in-ground swimming pool kit is going to cost you considerably more time and money. Before you even start the installation - unless you have a backhoe to dig the hole in your yard - you'll need to hire an excavator to do that. That part of the process is going to cost you a lot of money.
A pro about owning an in-ground pool is that is they come in a variety of sizes and even shapes. Above- ground pools basically come in four sizes: twelve, fifteen, eighteen, and twenty-four feet. In-ground pools come in practically any size, and they are available in fancier styles.
Today's above-ground pools are made better than their older counterparts. Some models are constructed of interlocking wall sections made from durable, rust-free aluminum. The liners are also heavier, and are even made to resist problems with mold and mildew. Some above-ground pools even come with a thirty, forty, or sixty-year guarantee.
If those guarantees sound good, then you'll like this pro of having an inground swimming pool: Some models actually have limited lifetime guarantees that are transferable from owner to owner.
Finally, in regard to safety, an inground pool is easier to fall into. Therefore, in order to protect people - especially children - you will need to install a fence with at least one swinging gate around the pool in your backyard. This is, of course, a con, because it's going to require more time and even more money.
