Chances are the only thing you’ve ever used lip balm for is to banish chapped lips. Whether it comes in a stick or a pot, lip balm is something almost everyone has around the house and some people may even become addicted to it. You might know someone who has to reapply lip balm frequently and can’t leave the house without it. If you’re not afraid of running out you can use your lip balm for things you never would have imagined.
Lip balm can be used as a lubricant much like household oil and without the mess. If you have a stuck zipper lip balm can make it easier to open and close. Just rub a little bit of lip balm on the zipper and open and close it a few times to work it in. Be careful not to get any lip balm on the fabric around the zipper as it may cause a stain. Stuck drawers can also be made to glide open more easily by spreading a bit of lip balm on the tracks and wheels. Sticky sliding doors and windows can slide open easily with the application of lip balm on the tracks. If you have a ring stuck on your finger a bit of lip balm rubbed on will provide you with much better lubrication than soaps or lotions.
Have you ever tried to unscrew a light bulb and have it break in your hand while the socket remains firmly in place? A bit of lip balm rubbed around the socket of your light bulb will make it easier to remove and will prevent rust from forming that often causes light bulbs to stick.
Lip balm also has many grooming uses. When you color your hair draw a line around your face in lip balm and this will prevent the hair color from dripping into your face. Use lip balm to smooth eyebrows and mustache hairs to keep them looking neat. If you cut yourself while shaving a bit of lip balm can help to stop the bleeding without the sting of a styptic pencil. If you have a cold and are blowing your nose a great deal rub lip balm on your nose and the skin over your mouth to prevent chapped skin. Rubbing a bit of lip balm on your face can help prevent windburn and chapping from cold weather. If your hands get dry in between your fingers in the winter time, or you have extremely chapped hands from repeated exposure to water, rubbing lip balm into your skin before bed can help ease the dryness and aid in healing. Don’t forget to rub a little onto your cuticles to keep them soft had healthy too!
If you’re late for an appointment and don’t have time to get a shoe shine just dab a bit of lip balm onto your leather shoe and rub it in. You can also use lip balm to polish up leather belts and pocket books.
Lip balm can repair a scratched CD. Rub a coating of lip balm across the scratch on your CD and then clean it away leaving the lip balm only in the crack. Your CD should play without skipping.
Keep a few extra tubes of lip balm around the house and you’ll be ready for anything.
