Here is an easy way to install a washing machine by yourself.

Installing a washing machine can be a hair raising experience, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some suggestions to make your installation go smoothly.

First thing you will need to consider when installing a washing machine is the size of the space you are putting it into. This will determine the size of your washer and allow you an opportunity to verify the fit. Also you will know whether your dryer will fit beside it or if you will need to make adjustments. Be sure to verify the placement of the water faucets both hot and cold. Be sure you know which one is which. Also locate the drain outlet and the electrical connection.

Look at the back of your washing machine. You will see two threaded pipes sticking out; they are for attaching the water hoses. They should be labeled as to which one is hot and which is cold. Place a small amount of Teflon tape around the threads. If the hoses are labeled attach them to the appropriate pipe. If not, be sure to label the opposite end to avoid confusion later on. Wrap the hoses around the top of the washer to keep them out of the way.

Be sure the drain hose is safely out of the way and also wrapped around the top of the washer, to keep it from getting kinked or crushed while moving.

Now you are ready to install your washing machine.

* Carefully, move it into place. Keep your hands and feet from under the machine and try to stay in front of it while moving it toward the wall.

* Make sure the water and drain hoses are safely out of the way, so that they don’t get caught underneath or get kinked or crimped.

* Place a small amount of Teflon tape around the threads on the faucets, and attach the water hoses. Make sure they are connected to the right one, and that they are tight. You may want to use a wrench to tighten the hose at the faucet end. Be careful at the washer end as the pipes may strip with too much tightening.

* Place the drain hose inside the drain. Make sure it is far enough into the drain that it will not come out under pressure.

* Turn on the water. Verify that there are no leaks, from the faucets of the washer.

* Plug in the electrical cord, and give it a test spin, so to speak

Actually the best way to test your installation is to let if fill about half way and then advance the cycle to spin. This will not only fill and drain the tub, but will test the electrical. Watch for any signs of leakage during this test. You will also have a chance to watch how the machine performs and verify that all is well. Once you are satisfied, you are ready to begin using it.

Pat yourself on the back, every time you wash clothes, for a job well done.
