If you are looking for an economical way to double the space in your kitchen, wire shelving is a good choice. This type of shelving is not only easy to install, but is affordable as well.

Most wire shelves can be installed with just a screwdriver and are not hard to remove for cleaning. Some of these shelves don’t require any installation, as they are freestanding and are easily moved from one location to another.

Before you go shopping for shelving, be sure to measure. Measure both the width and height of the location where you want to install the shelving. You will also need to measure the depth of the cupboard or pantry to make sure you purchase the right size.

A good place to start is underneath the sink. Finding supplies underneath the sink can be frustrating, but a couple of wire shelves will help organize this area and free up some space. A slide-out wire utility basket can also make supplies easier to get to.

If you're tired of storing your garbage under the sink (and cleaning up the mess), you may want to consider a sliding pullout waste shelf. These wire shelves are sturdy, hold up to 30 quarts of garbage, and keep your trash neatly tucked away in a cupboard.

The next part of your kitchen that you may want to think about is your refrigerator. Instead of digging through shelves of food to find that can of soda, why not purchase a soda can dispenser? These wire dispensers hold a dozen cans and are tipped so that gravity makes the next can easy to reach. The dispensers can also be used in a cabinet or pantry.

In addition to wire shelving, there are many types of wire baskets that can be attached to the inside of cabinet doors to hold frequently used items. The baskets, which are rectangular, square or round, can be easily mounted with screws on most doors. You can store sandwich bags, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, sponges, snacks or just about anything that comes to mind. They also work nicely for the storage of spices, making them accessible, yet out of the way on the inside of a cupboard door.

You can also free up counter space by utilizing wire shelving. These units can help you to organize supplies and give you more space for cooking. Some units are designed to stand alone in a corner or you may choose a wall unit. Either way, they can provide storage for counter items like dish soap, sponges, cooking utensils or hand lotion.

Wire shelving can also be used to organize pots and pans. If you find yourself constantly searching for lids and pans that match, why not install a wire shelf and separate the two? A wire basket installed on a cabinet door would work well for lids and a shelf will give you more space for pans. It may also eliminate the need for double stacking.

Some wire shelves also come with sliders for easy viewing. These shelves slide out to help you find difficult to reach items with the touch of a finger. Again, these shelves are fairly simple to mount in your cupboard.

If you have a pantry, you can double your storage by mounting a tiered door or wall rack. These wire racks offer storage on either a wall or door, come in tiers of four, six or eight and add more space to your pantry with very little effort.

Another idea to maximize pantry storage is a wire, portable storage shelf cart. These carts are available in different sizes and are handy for storing canned goods, offering easy access because the cart can be simply rolled into the kitchen when needed.

With little effort, wire shelving can transform your kitchen, giving you more space in cupboards, refrigerators or in the pantry. This space saving idea will let you create more storage even on a limited budget.
