Honda began as a vision for Soichiro Honda in the 1940s and has grown into a major automobile and engine manufacturer.

- Soichiro Honda founded the Honda Technical Research Institute in 1946.

- In 1947, Honda produces its first product, a motorcycle motor, and presents it to the public.

- Honda was founded in the US in 1959. The location chosen was Los Angeles and the company was called the American Honda Motor Company, Inc.

- In the year 1963, Honda began to produce its first sports car. This car was built in Japan.

- Honda entered into Formula One racing in the year 1964 and won its first race in 1965. The year 1964 also was the year that Honda began to produce automobiles in Sayama, Japan.

- The Honda N360 was introduced to the public in 1966. This car was a compact that featured an air-cooled engine.

- Honda's Suzuka factory begins to produce automobiles in 1967.

- The first Honda Civic hit the marketplace in the year 1972. This car is still a popular model today.

- Honda ranked first in fuel efficiency in the mid 1970s for four years straight.

- Honda debuts the Prelude in 1978.

- In the year 1979, Honda of America Manufacturing begins to produce motorcycles. They then begin to produce the Honda Accord in 1982.

- Honda Research of America opens in 1984. Honda also begins to manufacture lawn mowers.

- The Acura Division of Honda begins in the early months of 1986.

- In 1989, Mr. Honda was inducted into the United States Automotive Hall of Fame. He was the first Asian to receive this honor. The Honda Accord became the best selling car in the United States in this year as well.

- The Honda Company entered into the world of Indy Car racing in 1994. They go on to win the Manufacturer's Championship in 1996.

- In the year 1998, Honda begins production of the Civic GX in Ohio.

- Honda produces the first hybrid gas and electric car in the United States in the year 1999. This car was called the Honda Insight.

- Honda begins to build its new plant in Lincoln, Alabama in the year 2000.

- The Honda Accord is recognized as the highest selling car in the United States in the year 2001.

- The year 2003 saw the ten millionth car produced by Honda in the United States roll off the assembly line.

- Honda celebrates 25 years of manufacturing in the United States in the year 2004.
