Hunting is always a great thing around here. We are the first and only county in the state that is doing quality deer management. If you are going to kill a deer it needs to be a certain size in order for the population to continue to grow and to basically grow larger animals. Most private hunting facilities out there set their own standards of quality deer management. We have worked with the state to implement that; we are kind of like a trial county to see if the state wants to adopt that as a whole. A lot of people here hunt Turkey. My husband loves to hunt geese and ducks. We also have dove shoots and quail shoots. There is a Raccoon Hunters Association that comes here every year and hunts raccoons. Some people like to hunt rabbits and squirrel. You name it and you can hunt it here; it's in season at some point. We have people from all over that place that come in and hunt different things. The different hunting guides can take you on guided hunts. Some people like to go and hunt turkey, but if they are novice, they don't know how to call turkeys or where to find the turkey. We have people here that have land and they provide hunts. You can go and stay in the hunting lodges and they get you ready and get you outfitted and go out in the morning and they call the turkeys for you and they guide you on where to go. Or if you are hunting deer they can recommend the best stands for you to be in and they take you to it, put you in there and come back to check on you that night and get you out.
