Ideal Spa Covers

  • Overview

Spas and hot tubs need a cover to protect the water from debris and to keep heat inside the tub. There are various hot tub cover manufacturers, but one of the oldest is the Ideal Spa Cover company of Fullerton, California. Its hot tub and spa covers have a variety of features that contribute to the cover's good performance.
  • Function

A spa cover's function is to cover the spa in order to retain heat, which allows it to use less electricity. The cover also helps keep the water clean by shielding it from debris. Ideal Spa Covers have a tapered foam core with four-inch-thick insulation to keep heat inside the hot tub. They also have a dual purpose heat seal gasket that helps stop heat loss. They are surrounded by a skirt flap for additional protection to retain heat and to keep dirt and debris from getting into the spa.

  • Features

Because they are continually exposed to water, spa covers must be moisture resistant. Ideal's spa covers have foam inserts that are vacuum-sealed with an exclusive Vapor Proof Barrier. Ideal also uses a special proprietary material and vacuum-sealing equipment. Their foam cores are ten times more resistance to moisture than the standard polyethylene film that is used by most cover manufacturers. They also feature drain grommets, which keep water from being retained beneath the vinyl coating of the cover and the interior foam. Ideal Spa Covers are available in eleven colors: Almond, beige, light gray, dark gray, rust, wildwood, navy blue, tropical blue, teal, cranberry and forest green.

  • Protection

All Ideal Spa Covers have a quality certificate number, which identifies the employees who manufactured, inspected and boxed it prior to delivery. This information helps ensure quality by allowing Ideal to trace and pinpoint problems. Idea Spa Covers have a warranty to protect buyers. The company guarantees all of the seams and stitching, as well as the handles and tie-downs, for three years. Coverage is on a pro-rated basis. Idea also guarantees the foam core against water absorption for two years. Warranty coverage does not include damage caused by not using the cover as directed in the product literature or other written instructions provided by Ideal. Other exclusions include not properly maintaining the cover, misusing or abusing it, or performing alterations. Minor deterioration and normal color fading are also excluded.
  • Cost

Ideal Spa Covers start at a cost of $349 and run up to approximately $449, depending on the weight of the foam and the size of the cover. Some sellers will include the cost of shipping in this price.
  • Warnings

Spa covers can be lifted and blown off the spa by high winds. If they are not well secured, they can also be opened by children or animals, creating a potential safety hazard. Ideal spa covers have Sure-Loc fasteners that keep the cover secure and prevent tampering. They can be locked with a key for added security to keep youngsters and others out of the tub. Ideal Spa Covers also meet the ASTM F1346-91 Standard for Manual Safety Covers, and they are also classified by (UL) Underwriters Laboratories. This means they meet most barrier code requirements, which can make it easier for a customer to get an installation permit for their spa.
