The IICRC is a not-for-profit certification institute that operates certification programs for the restoration, cleaning and inspection industries. For example, the IICRC has certification programs in the restoration industry for water damage restoration, fire damage restoration and even the specialties like mold remediation or odor control. We also do work in the cleaning industry - be it carpet cleaning or upholstery cleaning, hard surface floor cleaning, or ceramic tile cleaning. Then in the inspection industry we do inspections for third party carpet claims: marble and stone and wooden laminate flooring inspections. We do this mostly to give an unbiased third party opinion. Our participants go through a prescribed training program, take a standardized exam and re-register every year so that we know that they met their continuing education requirements.

Another major function of the IICRC, which goes with the certification, is to be stewards or keepers of the industry standards and develop standards of procedure and operation. We update the procedural standards for carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, water damage restoration, mold remediation and keep those working with other industry organizations. We get those standards published and/or available to the public. Those standards are often used even in court cases in the case of mold and such. They are used by organizations to make sure that people are indeed following the industry procedures and then our certification training is used to teach technicians and companies how to follow those standards with industry standards.
