How important is the editing equipment that a wedding videographer uses? It's gotten to a point now where pretty much anybody can edit video using software for Windows or Apple. The software isn't quite as important as the videographer who is using it.

You should definitely find out what editing software your videographer uses. There are different levels of software. It's gotten to a point now where pretty much anybody can edit video using software for Windows or Apple. The software isn't quite as important as the videographer who is using it. You can use high end editing software and still end up with a poor quality product if the editor isn't experienced, but it's not a bad idea to find out what they use. You might ask them why they use one editing software as opposed to another, which will allow you to judge their level of expertise. It doesn't really matter how they edit it as long as the final product is of the quality that you expect.


What you want to hear is anything made by Apple, Dolby Premier or Video 100 programs - those are all fine. If they use Apple's I-Movie program, which is a home user version, you might want to ask why they use that? There are programs meant for much smaller projects, not necessarily professional level. There are people who have edited professional movies with those programs so it is possible to do. Again it comes down to their level of experience and the final output, so if their videos look great and they have a good reputation, there is nothing really to worry about.
