How Important Are Numbers In Feng Shui?

How important are numbers in Feng Shui? Numbers are important in Feng Shui. There is a vibration with numbers and they talk to you like everything does. Different numbers have different meanings and bring balance, change, etc.

The idea of numbers in Feng Shui is an important concept as part of the tradition and practice. While Feng Shui is based around the unification and balance of the elements, such as earth, air, water and fire, it also is a practice in understanding the way that energies work in every living thing as well as object. With this concept in place, it makes numbers one of the concentrations for Feng Shui.

Teresa Hart, a professional Feng Shui practitioner, has emphasized the importance of all numbers: "Numbers are very important. They are important in everything. Everything is important in Feng Shui, because it starts telling you that everything talks to you, whether you know it or not. Everything is talking to you and there is a vibration with numbers. You look at a house number, that has meaning."

The beginning of the meaning of numbers is related to the geometry that Feng Shui is built from. The Bagua, or areas in Feng Shui are divided by exact changes in numbers and angles. From this, the balance in areas, as well as in numbers can be found. This sacred practice of math as an art form is one of the basic concepts of Feng Shui. These numbers and geometry then allow stability, energy and balance to enter an area.

From this concept, Feng Shui specifies the importance of certain numbers. For instance, the number four signifies balance. "You look at the four chairs around a table. It is more stable than having just three around the dinning table. Four is the balance. For a dinning table, four would balance the scene, but again it is your intention applied to it," states Hart. It is from this balance that the energy and intention is created and allows for more balance to create a stable environment.

While every number is known to have vibrations, intention and energy attached to them, the importance of the number nine, as expressed by Hart is one of the most vital numbers in Feng Shui: "Nine is the number of wholeness, you want to surround yourself with this number. In our system we are nine based and so at nine you start over with ten, which is a one with the zero....The number nine is a very strong yang number. Yin is more feminine, more receptive. Yang is more masculine, and it is a stronger energy. Nine is the yang energy and it is wholeness. So a lot of times you will see a picture with nine goldfish and one is black. That brings prosperity. That brings balance in a home and completion."

With every number is a significance and vibration attached to it. This brings specific energies into any area that you are in. If you have a number of things in one area, it will allow a specific energy to flow. In relation to this, if one uses a number as an expression or in a Feng Shui object, it can increase specific attributes. By knowing what these different numbers signify, as well as how they can help with Feng Shui energies, one will be able to use them to connect to their own needs and lifestyles.
