It's very important. There are some people that say fitness is 80% and nutrition is 20%. I think it's more like 50-50. Nutrition is important but is not hard to follow because the American Dietetics Association basic recommendations are very well. For the high protein dieters I think that's fine, but first of all, it is clearly not necessary. There are many cases where somebody embarks on fitness and a physical life style. For example doing a low carbohydrate diet is very difficult to do because the body does run on glycogen and carbohydrate.

The important aspect is that the carbohydrate be more complex carbohydrates and whole foods and less processed foods. Within the realm of that if they eat lean meat, fish, whole grains and vegetables they are fine. It's from that point they are getting all the nutrition they need. It's a matter of calories in versus calories out. And that's not hard to do when somebody eats more whole food. They are less calories dense and more nutrient dense so that people feel full and satisfied with less.

As a matter of fact the thing about the low carbohydrate diet is that it will work so well in the beginning stage is that often times there is water weight that is lost with it.

So for every gram of carbohydrate the body stores two grams of water. So when somebody depletes the body of carbohydrate they deplete the body of water and that's the weight loss that people see it. That's not fat loss it's water weight loss. And then if somebody keeps doing that they are going to start cutting into their muscle and that actually has more of a negative effect than a positive effect because muscle as I mentioned earlier that maintains a high metabolism.
