How Important Is Stretching To Fitness?

I think it is really important. An example is: I have two clients, they are both the same age - basically 85, both males, and both were businessmen. One guy gets up in the morning and the first thing he does is 15-20 minutes of stretching. He goes into the gym everyday or every other day and working out. He is in great shape and is active. He is able to go and do things. The other client I have, same age, same demographics, doesn't do anything. He doesn't do any stretching in the morning or anytime during the day, and he does very, very little exercise. He is basically homebound now.


For me that is the real indication. Here is an example of two men from almost the same lifestyle. One man just stayed with his fitness training and his flexibility training. The other man didn't. You don't notice it when you are 30 or 40, but as you age that's when you really start to realize how important exercise is to the body. The body is built to move and if it doesn't move, it starts to freeze up.
