What Are The Most Important Things For A Postpartum Mom To Remember?

What are the most important things for a postpartum mom to remember? All mothers, after delivering a child, should rest and relax with the baby to encourage bonding. Well the most important thing is for...

Well the most important thing is for her to just get a plenty of rest and nesting with the baby. This initial postpartum recovery is very limited and at the same time her learning curve is very steep. She is learning about her new postpartum body and the recovery that it is doing, not only from pregnancy and childbirth, but also just a normal postpartum recovery and then learning to care for her baby on top of all of that. So rest is vitally important for her so her mind and body can do the work of adjusting. Getting enough rest can be difficult so planning the right kind of support afterwards, practical support to help take over the things that she doesn't need to be doing like laundry and cooking and cleaning and those kinds of things.

The other thing is to keep in mind that she will get a rhythm at some point. In those first few days and weeks it can seem like the sleep deprivation is just hanging over her very heavily and she might feel like she can never get ahead of herself and her body won't ever be back to normal. It's good for her to keep reminding herself that this is just a little blip on the map of her whole postpartum recovery that she will get back to normal and she will be surer of her mothering in few weeks.
