Impressive Yet Simple Desserts

Tips and recipes for creating simple desserts - you do not have to be a chef nor do you have to spend hours in the kitchen to make tempting sweet treats.

No one likes to show up empty handed at a gathering, nor does anyone like to serve store bought desserts to guests. Now, even if you are not exactly an expert in the kitchen, you too can prepare enticing desserts that will impress your friends and family.

Here are three fabulous yet simple desserts that will leave your guests begging for more. None of them require baking, and each one only takes a few minutes of prep work.

6 large chocolate chip cookies, warm

Vanilla ice cream (enough for six large scoops)

8 oz. jar of hot fudge sundae topping

6 strawberries

Set out six dessert plates. Warm up the hot fudge sauce and drizzle it over the plates in a zigzag fashion, with a teaspoon. Use cookies purchased from the bakery and warm them for a few seconds each in the microwave. Place a warm cookie in the center of each plate. Top each cookie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, leaving about 1"of the cookie showing all the way around. Drizzle hot fudge sauce over the entire dessert. Garnish with a fanned strawberry.

*The following desserts are simple to make and only take moments to prepare, but they do require chilling time:

2 (8 oz.) packages softened cream cheese (do not microwave)

8 oz. container of non-dairy whipped topping

ΒΌ c. sugar

1 T. lemon juice

1 packet (single serving size) instant French vanilla cappuccino mix

1 t. instant coffee, plain or French vanilla

Ready to use chocolate graham cracker or cookie crumb piecrust

1 can chocolate flavored whipped cream (with decorating tip)

Chocolate covered coffee beans

Combine cream cheese and lemon juice and mix until smooth. Add whipped topping and whip until smooth and fluffy. Fold in sugar, dry cappuccino mix, and instant coffee. Pour into pie shell and chill for 2 hours before serving. Garnish with chocolate whipped cream. Place chocolate covered coffee beans on top of dollops of whipped cream.

1/2 c. milk

2/3 c. heavy cream

2 t. butter

1 t. vanilla extract

3 T. powdered sugar

6 oz. dark chocolate candy (broken into small pieces)

Truffles or other premium dark chocolates

1 oz. shaved dark chocolate

Gently heat milk and cream, stirring constantly until slightly bubbly, but do not boil. Use low heat to avoid scorching. Once bubbly, turn off heat and set aside. Pour each of the other ingredients into the blender in the order listed (reserving truffles and shaved chocolate to the side) and mix on low speed. Slowly add the very hot milk and cream mixture to the rest of the ingredients. Mix until chocolate is melted and you achieve a smooth consistency. Pour into dessert glasses and chill for 2 hours before serving. Garnish each serving with a truffle. Sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings.

These desserts are as rich and decadent as they are simple to make. When your friends and family ask for the recipes, you will want to keep them secret so you will not have to admit just how quick and easy these tempting treats are to prepare.
