Step 1
Add photos. A quick way to add visual interest and get visitors to stay longer on your site is to add pictures. Choose pictures that not only have lots of color and grab attention, but also that relate to your content. Don't forget to add captions. You can use captions to quickly get your point across and entice readers to check out the other content on your site. If you aren't a good photographer, there are plenty of places to get free stock photos; you can pay a small fee for the use of others.

Step 2
Enable comments and interaction. People love to give their opinion and share what they know. Give them a chance to do that by installing commenting or chat features. These can and should be moderated to avoid spam and other unwanted posts. Though they take a little extra time to monitor, comments or other interactive features will get visitors to return to your site over and over again.

Step 3
Start a blog or a daily news feed. Give your visitors something new to see each time they visit. A blog lets you provide a little insight into any topic, and also creates a feeling of personal interaction. A daily news feed on topics related to your site also help keep up interest, and gives visitors a reason to come back again and again.

Step 4
Create a search button and archives. Help visitors find what they're looking for on your site quickly by adding a search button. Even the best-built website can be frustrating for a visitor if she can't find something. It's hard to always anticipate every way in which a visitor will navigate your site. A search button helps solve that problem. Archives of older articles or even discontinued items are a handy reference for visitors. Just because the information is no longer relevant on the main pages doesn't mean that some visitors may not find it useful.
