Cut back on pasta. Many people especially because they are in a rush don't have very much time to prepare food in the evening. They come home from work and it's very easy to keep pasta around and keep some kind of a bottled sauce. They just throw together a meal very quickly but that is really not the best meal. So if you want to enjoy pasta of course one thing to do is to try to find whole grain pasta and it is much tastier now than it used to be.

Pasta is from wheat and wheat is a highly pesticized crop. If possible I would look for an organic brand if I can. The point I am trying to make here is that rather than having a whole big plate of pasta, have a smaller amount of pasta and throw in some cut up veggies, chicken, shrimp or other form of protein like a little tofu, or starchy beans so that the whole meal is not just the starch. And that's pretty easy thing for most people to do if they focus on it.

It's kind of hard to make a general rule about how much pasta you should have at a meal because that depends on the diet on the whole, your activity level and what your health issues are. In general, you cut the amount of pasta you have been eating. If you are making your whole meal of pasta, you could use half the amount of pasta you usually use and the other half of the plate can be the veggies and the protein. That would be a place to start.
