You don't have to spend a lot of money on manmade attractions because there is so much to see and do that is free or very low cost such as going on hikes, biking, walking the trails, and visiting the beach. It's very beautiful to take a drive along the Big Sur coast, which is known throughout the world. The coastal highway runs the length of the county on the west side and offers incredible views. It's an area where you can really experience the beauty without spending much money at all.
You can go to Fisherman's Wharf and watch the fisherman and have an ice cream cone and see the sea lions. As I mentioned earlier the chocolate factory is also free. Another thing that's very popular are the wineries and vineyards. We have a number of different wine tasting rooms throughout the county. Taste of Monterey is on Canary Row and Carmel Valley has six or seven different tasting rooms in one small area where you can just walk around. Salinas Valley is where most of the vineyards are and there are tasting rooms throughout the area.
