Information On Air Purifiers And Allergies

It is not enough to keep dust and allergens from harming the health of your family and you, for chemicals and odors are other unseen enemies that lurk in most homes. Michael Doman, Sales Manager for Austin Air Systems, a Buffalo, New York company originally founded to help asthma patients with allergies, says that they had to modify their products to include carbon and zeolite filters to keep noxious fumes away along with the airborne particles that were once their sole target. What use is a filter that can handle dust borne allergens alone, if poisonous chemicals and bad odors mix with the air you breathe?

Doman cautions that people may not be aware of the health risks that chemicals and odors can pose, but these unseen toxins tend to have serious long term effects on health in general. It is no wonder that the US Environmental Protection Agency has identified a number of gaseous chemicals, and set tough limits for each of them in the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

Richard Trzupek, author of a published manual on Air Quality Compliance, has explained the science behind using carbon and zeolite as agents to remove even faint traces of harmful chemicals from indoor air as we have in homes and offices. Austin Air Systems is so confident of their products, which are equally adept at protecting us from dust borne particles, as they are in keeping noxious fumes and odors away, that they offer airtight warranties, and even money back guarantees

Kathleen Hess-Kossa, a microbiologist and noted expert in industrial hygiene, has written in a book on air quality that volatile organic compounds (VOCs) may be up to a 100 times higher indoors than out in the open air! She explains that these dangerous substances get trapped in our homes, and there is insufficient air inside to dilute them. VOCs not only enter our homes from outside, but may also emanate from some surfaces such as particleboard that have been treated with chemicals. Kathleen warns that such small amounts of VOCs may make us feel quite ill, though we may not make the connection to the villain gases! Headache, nausea and watery discharges from the eyes and nose are common symptoms that VOCs may be taking their toll of our health.

Doman says that his company has become concerned with the entire issue of chemicals and odors in the home, and that Austin would like to help us deal with these issues. So do not limit your concerns to the air you breathe at home, to dust and to air borne particles alone, and make sure that you install filters which can deal with noxious fumes and with bad odors as well! Air filters are affordable and easy to install. They consume minimal energy and do not need any serious maintenance. The pay-offs in terms of health and wellness is enormous, and after all, clean air in our homes is truly invaluable!
