Concrete tanks are in fact usually precast in a manufacturer's location and then transported to the job on a truck. Concrete is usually a very structurally competent product. It makes a good hard tank.

The disadvantages are that in order to get a concrete tank to the job, it requires a specially designed truck. It's capable of handling the weights, and you must be able to get that truck right next to the hole in which the tank is going to be placed. The other disadvantage is that sewage will often create gases, Hydrogen Sulfide probably being the most recognizable, which gives you the rotten egg smell.

And certain compounds of Sulfur are very aggressive with concrete. So actually it will deteriorate the concrete and eat right through it, eventually weakening the walls and lids of the tank. The tank can collapse. So while it starts off being initially a very strong product, it can quickly deteriorate due to the corrosive nature of the gases and sewage.
