Find Information on an Existing Invention Through InventHelp

By Contributing Writer

  • Overview

InventHelp is a private company founded in 1984 that assists inventors in developing their inventions and submitting them to companies and businesses. In addition, the firm helps companies identify potential inventions that they might be interested in manufacturing. It is possible to find information on existing inventions on InventHelp, but you must work for a company or manufacturer that is seeking inventions.
    • Step 1

Know the restrictions. InventHelp offers a data bank of product and invention ideas, but it is available only for their clients in marketing or manufacturing who are seeking inventions. A private person cannot access the data bank to find invention ideas or look up information on an existing invention.
    • Step 2

Visit the website if you meet the restrictions to sign up for the program for companies and businesses seeking inventions (see Resources).

    • Step 3

Click the tab at the top of the page that says "Marketers & Manufacturers." On this page, you will learn the benefits of the invention data bank and can register for the service.
    • Step 4

Fill out the form at the "Request Information" link and enter your name, personal information and company information.
    • Step 5

Submit the form. InventHelp will contact you with more information on how to complete your registration and the fees involved.
    • Step 6

If you prefer to speak to someone directly, you can call InventHelp at (800) 851-6030.

    • Tip: Private citizens or inventors who are not affiliated with a company or manufacturer can find a little information on existing inventions by browsing the InventHelp Store. While this is not an exhaustive list of existing inventions, it does offer a few inventions for sale that may give you some ideas.
