It's incredible trend particularly new home construction to have an over the range microwave. They are not only a growing trend in new home construction but in renovation and existing housing construction. It serves the purpose of the microwave but it saves space. So instead of having a counter top microwave, you have it above your range. To get ventilation for the cooking, these over the range microwaves also have a built-in fan for the ventilation system. In past years, consumers have told us that they didn't trust over the range microwaves to ventilate as well as a hood fan. In listening, to the consumer, we improved the technology to make sure that whether you are cooking on the back burner or the side burner or the front burner that it would equally be ventilated.
That is, perhaps, one of the greatest innovations within over the range microwaves. Another technological innovation with over the range microwaves is with our G2 Mac and our Velos speed cook ovens. They are no longer going to be called microwaves. They are called speed cook ovens because they have the functionality of a convection oven and a traditional oven. So you can cook things in there like grilling steak. You can cook things like cinnamon rolls and biscuits. You can make cookies, make pizzas and you can even make lasagna. The over the range microwave has evolved and it's no longer just like the microwave you have on your counter top, it's actually a second oven.
They can even have a metal rack for grilling. You can grill steak, turkey or chicken on it. It makes great baked potatoes.
With our Velos and our G2 speed cook appliance we have cut down dramatically the time that it takes to cook your food. For instance, you would typically cook cookies in the oven. Between the preheat process and the actual cooking process, it would probably take you somewhere near 28 minutes. In a speed cook appliance you are cooking for about 10 minutes. That is a great reduction. So the beauty of it is that it's convenient to having it above the range, off the counter top. It's another convenience because a person who is entertaining or wants a second oven but can't afford one has a second oven without all the trouble.
When you buy a Velos or G2 it comes with a rack. It comes with both the stand and a rack that is round with a stand. It also comes with a rack that goes across and acts a shelf and a steamer. The steaming container that goes in there also comes with what we call as sizzle pan. It looks like a baking pan or sheet. It been specially engineered for our G2 and Velos over the range microwave. So it goes in the speed cook oven and you can cook cinnamon rolls, biscuits or cookies on it. You can fry eggs really well on it as was as melt all kinds of good stuff in it.
They are not connected to range, per se. But they do involve an installation process. You have to know the clearance and the dimension to install this. That's why I said it's a bigger thing for new housing construction and renovation of existing homes. Because that you have to have a contractor who knows how these things had been specked out. I would definitely recommend that people have these professionally installed.
It's like a second oven so it will pretty much last as long as you want it. It's something that I would say you are going to get more than a decade of use out of. And probably somewhere close to the 15 years.
